When Fargo introduced the industry's first side opening wedge deadend in 1993, utilities quickly adopted the new wedge-type deadend as a way to significantly cut costs associated with the installation of bolted deadends.
Cut installation costs 80 - 85%
In a 1995 study, a utility using the Fargo GDW deadends cut bolted deadend installation time from 20 to three minutes with actual installation costs falling from $19.00 per bolted deadend to $2.85 per deadend on various size conductors. In another comparison installation cost decreased from $14.25 per bolted deadend to $2.85.
Deadends for the new millennium
With Fargo GDW 2000 Wedge Deadends, there are no bolts to slow installers down. Simply lock the jaws of the deadend open, insert the conductor between the jaws. Tap the back of the jaws to lock conductor in place. Once contact between the clamp and conductor is established, the applied spring tension holds the conductor securely. Feeding conductor through the deadend is eliminated. You're done.
No special tools or skills. No tightening errors. Repositions on conductor quickly and easily. The labor savings are real.
