Aluminum Platforms for Regulators, Transformers, Reclosers and Other Distribution Controls

Hubbell platforms are delivered already assembled. Available from 12 to 22 feet in regular, heavy, extra heavy and super heavy duty designs. There are 32 platform variations with capacity ratings reaching 33,000 lb. Constructed with 11 1/2" main I-beams (two each for all series but the Super Extra Heavy Duty series, which has four main beams). All platforms have six adjustable hat-channel crossmembers you can slide to necessary mounting positions and lockbolt in place. Units may be ordered with an optional 41-inch wide parallel walkway with hand railing and supports for plans you provide.

Aluminum Platforms

For equipment too heavy for single-pole mounting, Hubbell Aluminum Platforms carry three relative ratings:

  • Uniform vertical load
  • Single center vertical load
  • Three vertical loads. These criteria provide flexible information to match varying circumstances in the case-by-case process of specifying a platform. Since both weight and dimensions of equipment are factors, the same size specified for an individual item at one location may serve to support two to three items elsewhere.

New Truck Hitch-Receiver Mount for Capstan Hoists

This Chance mount puts a capstan hoist in the right position for pulling, stringing and lifting jobs. With the hoist positioned on it, the aunt's square tube simply inserts and pins in any 2" square receiver of a Class III or IV towing hitch. Now capstan hoists can be as universal as this type trailer hitch is to most service vehicles. Turntable design permits proper alignment with out repositioning the service vehicle. Swivel mount permits pinning at every 15¼ interval around the circular base for stringing, tensioning, sagging conductors; pulling in cable, hoisting equipment; setting poles and pulling vehicles.

New Ohio Brass Polymer Insulator

Ohio Brass (OB) VLS-2 polymer insulators come in several configurations to replace two porcelain 10" suspension bells or two porcelain distribution deadend bells. This insulator offers greater leakage distance (15 to 20% greater than porcelain) and better electrical performance than other polymer insulators of similar length at 1/10 the weight of porcelain. Available with ball-socket and clevis tongue end fittings. Practically impossible to break. Installs fast. Backed by more than 20 years of OB experience.

Nylon threads are an alternative to lead threads on Chance steel insulator pins. These forged steel pins are hot-dip galvanized. Available on 5/8" dia. shanks. Furnished with one each, 2"x2"x1/8" square washer, square nut and curved lock nut.

Wireholders
•UV stabilized •Glass reinforced •Nylon alloy •Galvanized screw

The Chance nylon alloy wireholder is offered as a direct replacement for porcelain wireholders. It has greatly increased fracture resistance, comparable insulation and increased ease of installation.

The flat top will let you start lag-screw wireholders using a hammer. Universal installing tool is available for powered installations. Toggle-bolt wireholder C207-0141 requires 7/8" hole for installation.

Nylon Thread Pole Top Insulator Pins

Nylon threads are an alternative to lead threads on Chance hot-dip galvanized pole top pins. Mounting holes are 11/16" x 11/4".

New Polymer Arresters Protect Underground Systems

Hubbell Power Systems, Inc., polymer distribution elbow arresters (PDE™) for 15kV - 35kV applications give shielded deadfront arrester protection for underground systems. Overvoltages are limited to protect equipment and extend cable life. Personnel safety and equipment protection are enhanced because of modular construction. PDE arresters combine Ohio Brass (OB) metal oxide varistor (MOV) technology and OB polymer expertise to make Hubbell PDE arresters the latest innovation in underground system protection.

Reduce Lightning Interruptions

OHIO BRASS® (Hubbell Power Systems) Protecta*Lite® Systems improve service by reducing interruptions caused by insulation flashover initiated by lightning. Cost-effective protection for unshielded and supplemental protection for shielded transmission and distribution lines. Protecta* Lite consists of a metal-oxide surge arrester used in parallel with the line insulation. During surges, arrester limits voltage across the insulation to a value below the insulator flashover voltage. Surge current is diverted to ground in a controlled manner and service is protected.

Combine 600 and 200 Amp Connections in One Junction

HUBBELL CABLE ACCESSORIES™ (Hubbell Power Systems) TAPMASTER™ Junction allows you to specify up to six positions with any combination of 600 or 200 amp interfaces. Position upward or down ward to accept connecting cables. The need for special loadbreak reducing tap products that must be installed in 600 ampere elbows or extenders can be eliminated along with the need for special tools and assembly procedures. Eliminates the need to "stack" 200 amp taps on a 600 amp elbow. Makes it easy to disconnect a 600 amp elbow from a junction location without moving the 200 amp cables.

Connector Prevents Elbow Overheating

HUBBELL CABLE ACCESSORIES™ has the solution to elbow overheating. The new PROBELOK™ Connector Elbow has a special insert that holds the threaded connection tight, even if flexing causes it to turn. Conventional elbows use simple threaded connections between the cable connector and probe. When a lineman has to twist an elbow to put it on or pull it off, the connection loosens. Even a quarter turn can cause the connection to wobble ever so slightly. That wobble creates hot spots that can cause elbow overheating and failure. One service call to repair an overheated elbow can cost hundreds of dollars so preventive protection with PROBELOK™ Connector Elbows and reduced service calls directly improve the bottom line. Warranted.

Distribution Automation-Ready Switches

The new AR line of overhead switches from Hubbell Power Systems offers features for normal operation and distribution automation. Its unique low-torque overtoggle linkage mechanism enhances easy operation by standard down-the-pole controls, optional hook stick control or motor drive. In any of four configurations, the AR Switch is rated for 900 amps continuous and interrupt for 14.4, 25 and 34.5 kV. All are available as standard switches with upgrade capability or fully automated with line sensors, motor operator, RTU and communication package included.
